Mindfulness + Design

Mindfulness can be described as paying attention on purpose. For me to successfully engage in the creation process, I release all expectations, ego, anxiety and deadlines. With calm awareness in the present moment, I focus on one thing. Maybe it’s a client’s injured back. Maybe it’s a door jamb meeting a paver.

Design requires a plan, and I find that leaning into one essential detail can open up understanding. That one detail is often layered and complex the more I notice. We become friends and set out to support this detail through the arrangement of materials and color.

We acknowledge, with respect, that the land we are on today is the traditional and ancestral homelands of the Arapaho, Cheyenne, and Ute Nations and peoples who were forced off this land. This land was also a site of trade, gathering, and healing for numerous other Native tribes.
